Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attended a luncheon in Sendai with leading figures from Japan’s administration and industry, underscoring the growing depth of India-Japan ties.
The gathering was hosted in the presence of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and included the Governor of Miyagi Prefecture Yoshihiro Murai, Chairman of JR East Yuji Fukazawa, President of Tokyo Electron Tetsuro Higashi Kawai, and President of Tohoku University Hideo Ohno Tomunaga.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi received a warm welcome from locals and members of the Indian diaspora, with people chanting “Welcome to Japan, Modi-san!” He warmly interacted with the crowd, including children who had lined up to greet him.
PM Modi and Ishiba also travelled together by Shinkansen bullet train to Sendai—a gesture described by the Ministry of External Affairs as a symbol of the “warmth of India-Japan friendship.”
During his two-day official visit for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, PM Modi is scheduled to tour key industrial facilities, including a semiconductor plant and a bullet-train coach manufacturing site.
